ANTHOLOGIA
anthos: flower logia: collection

This website is about a garden; our rural garden in Shropshire.

It is easy to take photographs of the flowers, layouts and structures and this is where I started in 2004.  But the more years I spend observing this garden through the seasons, the more layers I begin to see.  There is such life going on that is invisible to the casual eye and it is that life that I find so fascinating and which keeps me going outside to search for more.

Nature is glorious and it is a joy to capture it on camera.  There is such richness in minutiae, which is so easily lost in the hustle and bustle of life.

For 25 years, James has overseen the evolution of the garden but it is far from formal or manicured.  To a large extent it is left to its own devices to weave its own special magic.   The plants and flowers find their own space in which to rub along together. I simply have to be vigilant for those moments when the light falls just so, highlighting perfectly the marvels on offer.

I do not anticipate what to look for because that closes my eyes to what nature is planning to do that day.  And nature really does know how to display itself – when it is ready.

What’s new for 2008?

The Gallery is full of more floral and garden images because, despite the poor weather of 2007, there were ‘good garden days’.  Also, our cats have managed to sneak in to some pictures.  Since they spend so much time in the garden, I decided that they should be in this record too.

A family of pigs invaded one day, much to James’ consternation and there are also the cows and sheep that provide the garden’s background sounds.  Although not technically within the garden, I’ve stretched the rules and photographed them over the hedge.

2008 will see me selling these images at various venues; all the details can be found on the Events Page, which is updated on a regular basis.

Images may be bought from this web site, please see the Sales Pages.  They are reproduced on archival quality matte paper in pigment inks for long-lasting colour and are supplied mounted and ready-to-frame.  Each image is signed at the bottom alongside its name and sequence number out of 150, the limited-edition run.
